Lay out with stacks, grids and sizes

Choose how a layer arranges what is inside it, set the gap and alignment, and decide how big each layer is.

Choose a layout

Select a frame, then choose its Layout in the Properties panel:

  • Stack puts the layers inside it in a row or a column, with a Gap between them. Align items decides where they sit across the stack.
  • Grid puts them in Columns and Rows, with a Column gap and a Row gap.
  • Free lets you place them anywhere in the frame. Their Pins keep them at a distance from the frame's sides when it changes size.

Set a layer's size

For the width and the height, choose:

  • Fixed: a set size.
  • Fill: the space left in the parent. Fill works inside a stack or a grid.
  • Fit: as big as the content.
  • Relative: a percentage of the parent.

Add Min W, Max W, Min H or Max H to keep a layer within limits, and Lock aspect ratio to keep its proportions. Resize to fit content (Control+Option+R on a Mac, Ctrl+Alt+R on Windows) makes a frame as big as what is inside it.

Overflow

Overflow decides what happens to content bigger than its frame: it stays visible, is clipped, or scrolls.
