Edit a site together

Edit the same page with other people at the same time, see their changes as they make them, and know what happens when two of you change the same thing.

Everyone on a project shows at the top of the editor. Everyone who may edit the site can work on the same page at the same time, and each of you sees the others' changes as they make them. Editing together is reaching workspaces in stages: until it reaches yours, one person edits a page at a time (see the end of this article).

When two of you change things at once

  • Changes to different things are all kept: one of you moves a button while the other rewrites the heading.
  • When two of you change the same setting of the same layer, the later change is kept. If yours was replaced, the properties panel says "{name} changed this after you. Their value is kept."
  • A delete wins over a change: a layer one of you deletes stays deleted, even if the other was still editing it.
  • Undo takes back your own changes, not other people's.

Notices

  • If someone deletes the layer you had selected, your selection moves to the layer around it, and a notice says who deleted it.
  • When someone else has just changed the layer you have selected, the top of the properties panel says "Edited by {name} just now".

One person per page

Until editing together reaches your workspace, the first person to open a page edits it. The others see that page live and read-only, with "{name} is editing this page" at the top.

  • Request edit access asks the person editing for the page. They can Hand over, and then it's yours.
  • Take over is offered to roles that may take a page at any time, and to designers once the person editing has changed nothing on the page for two minutes. The person whose page it was is told, and the page turns read-only for them.

Follow someone, and chat at your cursor

  • Follow: open someone's avatar in the top bar and choose Follow, or press ⌥⇧F. Your canvas goes where they are: their page, their breakpoint and their language, and it keeps their cursor in view. Any click, scroll or key of yours stops following.
  • Typing: while someone types in a text, it says so above that text. It doesn't stop you from editing it too.
  • Cursor chat: press / on the canvas, type a short message (up to 140 characters) and press Enter. The others on the page see it at your cursor for 5 seconds. Messages aren't saved anywhere. Escape closes it without sending.
