Translate your site
Add languages, translate every text by hand or with AI, and check that each language fits.
A site can be published in more than one language. Each language has its own address, such as /fr/ for French,
and every text of the site, its pages, components and settings, can be translated. A text without a translation
shows its fallback language, so a page is never empty while you translate.
Add a language
- Open Localization in the site menu. A site in one language shows how translating works and its Languages settings, where you add the first one.
- Add a language by its name or its code. Any language works, such as
es,pt-BRorar. - Set what it falls back to (the default language unless you choose another), its address prefix, and for languages that have one, whether it addresses visitors formally.
- A new language starts unpublished. Publish it in Languages once its texts are ready.
The default language is the one the site was made in. Its pages have no prefix.
Translate
Localization shows the open page's texts, or the whole site's, in a table: where each text is, the default language's text, its translation and its status.
- Missing: not translated; visitors see the fallback.
- Machine: translated by AI, not yet checked by a person.
- To review: imported or changed, waiting for a person.
- Done: checked.
- Stale: the default language's text changed since it was translated.
Type a translation in the table to set it; it's marked Done. Empty it to show the fallback again. Show on canvas opens the text's page with its layer selected, so you can see it in place.
With AI
Translate translates the page or the whole site into the languages you tick. Before it starts, it shows what it costs in credits. The work shows in the agent panel, and you review the result before it's applied. Its translations are marked Machine, so you can check them.
You can also translate the layers you've selected: right-click them and choose Translate….
Auto-translate (in Languages) translates your edits in the background as you work in the default language, into the languages you choose, up to a daily credit limit.
A Glossary (also in Languages) keeps your names and terms as you want them in each language, for AI translations.
With a translator
Translation files (in Languages) exports a language's texts as an XLIFF file for a translator or a translation tool: the whole site, one page or one collection, everything or only what needs translating. Import the translated file to read it back; its report says what was written and what needs a look.
Check that each language fits
Some languages take more room than others. Check all languages renders every page in every language at each breakpoint and lists the texts that don't fit where the default one does. Show opens each on the canvas in that language.
What visitors see
Each published language has its own address and is listed for search engines, so visitors find the page in their language. Turn on Send visitors at / to their own language in Languages, and a visitor who opens the home page is sent to their own language when the site has it.
