Protect a site with a password

Ask visitors for a password before they see the site, or only on its staging host.

A password keeps a site, or only its staging host, closed to everyone who doesn't have it: a site that isn't launched yet, or one for a few people. It works at once, without publishing.

Set a password

  1. In the site menu, choose Password protection….
  2. Under What asks for it, choose The whole site (its staging host too) or Only its staging host.
  3. Type the Password: at least 8 characters.
  4. Choose Protect the site.

Visitors enter it once on each device. A new password asks everyone again.

Change or remove it

Open Password protection… again: type a New password and choose Save, or choose Remove the password to open the site to everyone.

Good to know

  • Only an owner or admin of the workspace can set it.
  • It comes with the Pro and Business plans. Removing a password always works, on any plan.
  • Nobody sees the password again once it is saved, not even in the editor: to share it, keep it somewhere safe.
